Commonly Asked Questions and Answers
Q: How do the most difficult-to-poll demographics respond to our systems?
A: TouchPoll systems are proven to be the method of choice for the elderly and high-income
earners. Many within the elderly population are not computer-literate, but they will stand in line
for the opportunity to give their opinions. Many times, it’s the first chance they will have to
interact with this type of technology, and they all want to offer their view.
High-income earners are the toughest segment to survey, but TouchPoll is friendly to
them, it’s quick, anonymous and most are already familiar with computers. Touch is
the method of choice for the more successful income group. We once polled over 400
Cardiologists in less than 3 days with touchscreen at a national heart show, while the
clipboard pollsters couldn’t survey 100!
Q: How do we stop kids or other inappropriate respondents from taking the poll?
A: Whether attended or unattended, our interactive technology automatically branches
kids or non-desired demographics to other questions which may be used or deleted
automatically; nonetheless, many modern-thinking clients prefer to program separate
internal surveys for children and others, collecting data that will be invaluable at some
other time—after all, kids will be grown-ups most of their lives!
Q: How do we stop respondents from taking our surveys more than once?
A: Over the years, we have carefully studied this issue, with some rather amazing results.
Almost no one ever wants to take the poll twice. The only respondent that would
give it a shot would be teen boys. If a teen boy sees someone else take a different
survey, about 10% will attempt to “crack” the code by entering an older age answer.
When they see that this takes them to a different poll, they walk away. We have
allowed for that by providing logic that does not accept these answers after a “1-1”
(teen boy) has taken the survey.
Q: How do we get “realistic” income data and answers about sensitive issues?
A: Touchscreen is proven to be the very best method of collecting income data. During
a normal phone poll or clipboard survey, it is proven that high-earners lie downwards
and low-earners lie upwards. With touchscreen, the respondents know no one will
match their answers with their name, so income answers are very responsible. As a
matter of fact, close to 100% of our respondents gladly offer “straight” answers,
something our clients count on and greatly appreciate.
Q: How do we control the “sampling”?
A: Clients want to know that, if needed, true random sampling is occurring. Our systems
are the best known methodology for polling all types of respondents. Literally every
segment of the population is drawn to these systems (including the elderly and the more
affluent) in equally proportionate percentages. Unless a respondent is illiterate (this
grouping is rarely required to be surveyed by our clients), he/she will take the survey.
We are also very experienced in multi-lingual polls.
Q: Do we have to offer incentives to respondents to entice them to take the survey?
A: In a word, no. Although some of our clients want us to offer them when conducting
their research (due to their past experiences with paper polls, etc.), they are virtually
not needed. In fact, many larger trade shows will not allow rewards, since they clog up
the isles. This gives us an edge over our traditional competitors, and our clients know it.
Q: How do we handle “walk-a ways”?
A: It’s no secret that a small percentage of respondents may stop entering questions due
to being in a big hurry, or they may be pulled away by a spouse, etc. During clipboard
surveys or phone polls, the respondent may choose to give misleading or false answers
to bring the process to an end, rather than walking away or hanging up. Our systems
are not affected at all by this—they are programmed to collect all data entered to date,
and automatically reset to the start screen right after a person discontinues the polling process.
Q: What if the power fails?
A: No problem here, too. The system automatically saves all previously collected data, then
“re-boots” right back to the start screen if desired.
